EUROPEAN ARTHOUSE CINEMA DAY 2019

On October 13th, 2019 the fourth European Arthouse Cinema Day will take place in cinemas all over the world. The CICAE and Europa Cinemas team up again to celebrate the engagement of movie theatres in favour for a European living cultural diversity through very rich, varied, curated and exclusive programs. In 2018 more than 650 cinemas in 39 countries have participated.

Cinemas are an important part of the cultural landscape and enrich communities everywhere – in cities and in the countryside. They bring people together, regardless of age, origin, education or income.
With over 100 million guests in Europe each year, arthouse cinemas play a crucial role in promoting cultural diversity and showcasing young talent.

"Rather than imitating its natural similarity to classic movie theaters, I chose to portray an abstract idea of an arthouse. I painted it as a very high, mysterious tower without an entrance door and without any windows. However, there is an exit door of the tower, closed to the top and closed to the clouds, with a stairway to the flat roof. There you can see some happy people who can fly and who enjoy the unconventional aesthetic view from the roof"
